Kia ora, greetings to everyone!
It is my very great pleasure to invite you to join us in Auckland in May 2014 for the Metropolitan Libraries Conference.
We have chosen the theme Intrepid Journeys – libraries at the edge of discovery for this conference. For us the word intrepid invokes a sense of courage, a daring spirit, and a willingness to be on the edge, exploring and trying new things and taking risks. All of which seem to be essential in public libraries today as we chart new possibilities with our customers. The theme references the name of Star Trek’s USS Intrepid: going where no one has gone before. It also recognizes that it’s a long way to New Zealand, almost at the edge of the world, but so worth the journey.
We are developing an exciting programme of speakers, visits and networking to build on this theme of discovery and possibility. This will include opportunities to experience the beauty and vitality of Auckland and its outstanding library services, as well as satellite visits to Wellington and Christchurch to make your journey even more worthwhile.
Please do come and join us to share your stories so that we can learn from each other and dare to be different together.
Haere mai – we extend a very warm welcome and look forward to seeing you here.
