MetLib Conference 2014

MetLib 14 – thank you

Kia ora koutou
Allison and the team thank all participants in MetLib 2014, and all those organisations which allowed staff to attend. We are grateful to Auckland Libraries staff too. It was a great honour for us to host so many inspiring colleagues from around the world. The journey continues to Zurich in 2015.

Links to 2014 presentations and photos will be from this post, and will be added over the week from 19-25 May. A short evaluation survey is also coming to you by email.

The photos taken by Tomas have been added to Dropbox and a link sent to registered participants.

Please note that Robert Sullivan’s opening keynote has been emailed to all participants.

Experience Auckland’s Sky Tower

Views … adventure … revolve and dine in style. At this time of the year the Sky Tower is open daily 9 am – 10 pm. This iconic structure defines central Auckland. Make sure you visit it.

Central city library – refurbished children’s area

Auckland’s central city library has a striking new area for children – wait until you hear the story behind it and see how well the area is used.

Thanks once again to all our sponsors

Thank you once again to all our wonderful sponsors for supporting the MetLib 2014 conference. Sponsor support and the willingness of delegates to make presentations have made the programme possible.

Makerspace

Auckland – Central Library makerspace

The space is physically modest. The game ‘jam’ has been hugely successful, as you can see from the Pinterest posts.

What to pack

OK, it is fair to say that in May 2014 you might need to bring a sweater and jacket with you. No snow or sleet but it will be winter and there might be some rain. One travel guide advises:

New Zealand is a land of extremes so you should bring clothing to cover all seasons and weather conditions, no matter what time of the year you are visiting!

Restaurants and hotels generally accept tidy, casual clothing.  Nightclubs accept tidy dress…. Swimmers at beaches, pools and lakes should always wear bathing suits.  When adventuring into the outdoors, no matter how long you are going for, always take a change of spare, dry, warm clothes.

Swimming? Yep, for those of you staying in a hotel with a heated pool.
